Up to 30 concerned business owners and representatives met at a private meeting in Galway city this week to discuss crime and policing issues in the city centre.

Feuding groups who contributed to the series of violent incidents in and around the city centre last weekend have been told by the Mayor to “calm down, step back and take responsibility before anybody loses their life.”

A new scholarship aimed at helping former prisoners and those with a criminal past access higher education has launched at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), Athlone Campus.

Athlone based Esker House Domestic Abuse Support Services in association with Safe Ireland and An Garda Síochána are calling on members of the local public to ‘Go Purple’ tomorrow, Friday, April 29, to create awareness of domestic violence and raise funds for their service.
